Julian Felipe, the composer of the Philippine national anthem, inherited his love for music from his musician-father, who was a church choir member. He received a diploma of merit and a silver medal at the Manila Regional Exposition in 1895. His other compositions are: “Amorita Danza,” also called “Aurorita Danza;” “Cintas y Flores Rigodones;” “Motete al Santisimo;” “Olivia,” dedicated to Dr. Olivia Salamanca, and “Labintatlong Martir.”
