Santiago Suarez learned how to play the piano from his grandmother who was also a competent harpist. His grandfather knew how to play the flute. Santiago attended the UP Conservatory of Music and Ateneo de Manila in Intramuros aside from taking private lessons from Caetano Jacobe, Pedro Floriaga, and Nicanor Abelardo.
